The Arizona Advisory Council on Indian Health Care (AACIHC) is looking for highly motivated individual to join our team as an Academic Pathways Coordinator. Reporting to the Grants Manager (GM), the Grant Program Coordinator is a grant funded position that assists the Grants Manager in implementing the American Indian Health - AHEC (AIH-AHEC) program. The Grants Program Coordinator will assist with project implementation and assist to accomplish grant goals and deliverables. The Grants Program Coordinator will assist with implementation of the program's academic pathways coordinator, assisting high school students with college preparation/applications, serving as a resource for incoming college students during their first years, along with career counseling and scholarship identification. The Grants Program Coordinator will work closely with individual students and families, academic institutions, and the community to address workforce needs in American Indian Health and Tribal Health systems.
This position is available for remote work on a full-time basis within Arizona (including virtual office arrangements).

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Provides direct assistance to the Grants Manager to develop, manage, and implement operational frameworks that supports student’s academic success within the AIH-AHEC programs. Shares relevant knowledge and insight to apprise students of programs and services available to them. Serves as a resource on pre-college entry requirements as well as college healthcare degree requirements. Provides one-on-one support for students and their families.
• Assists students in their educational journey, from helping them to choose their courses and majors, to advising on career paths and opportunities. Provides support and guidance for American Indian high school and undergraduate students seeking educational opportunities in health care.
• Introduces American Indian students in grades 9-16 to the various professional careers in health care to include medical and public health. Assists in the recruitment and retention of American Indian students in Arizona colleges and universities pursuing medical and/or public health degrees. Works with students to resolve academic and personal issues that impact their academic success and overall well-being.
• Serves as the primary contact and resource for scholarships that will assist American Indian students with funding for post-secondary education. Researches and maintains a working knowledge of scholarship programs. Assist students with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) application process.
• Conducts presentations and informational booths for the AIH-AHEC program at career days, educational events, student orientations, etc. Travel to AIH-AHEC hosted events, outreach opportunities, and conference tabling as available within Arizona.
• Monitor student progress and advise on suitable courses and academic strategies based on their academic performance and capabilities. Identify issues that could potentially affect the academic success of students. Refer students to appropriate institutional resources for additional assistance. Create and monitor a student success mentoring program.
• Develop and expand collaborative partnerships and/or relationships with educational institutions, governmental, tribal, and other organizations and individuals where the AIH-AHEC and AACIHC mission and strategic goals align.
Knowledge of:
• Policies, procedures and programs of AZ academic institutions, educational delivery systems, public health systems, towards student career development and success.
• Administrative and management practices.

• Online virtual meeting platforms.
• Computer Skills, including experience with Google Suite and Microsoft Products.

• Strong interpersonal skills, and experience working with students, parents, faculty, and staff.

Ability to:

• Manage multiple tasks within an independent work environment, prioritizing tasks to ensure timelines are met.
• Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships.
• Work with students grades ninth(9) - twelfth(12), and undergraduate students.
• Have a professional and proactive work ethic and work with a team dynamic.
• Solve problems and make decisions.
• Monitor student progress to contribute to student success.
Minimum:
• Current Arizona Drivers License.
• Two(2) - three(3) years of experience in educational/academic advising for students between nine(9) - fourteen(14) years regarding career path and academic success.
• OR, a Bachelor's degree in a related field with OR, a Bachelor's degree in a related field with 1-2 years job related experience with students.
Preferred:
• Fingerprint Clearance Card Level One.
• Bachelors in Related Field; and two(2) - three(3) years of experience in youth career path advising, college admissions, Tribal College; or secondary academic counseling.
• Experience in working with Tribal organizations and a knowledge of academic program coordination, mentoring and career counseling integrated within Indigenous cultures.
• Successfully pass fingerprint background check, prior employment verifications and reference checks; employment is contingent upon completion of the above-mentioned process and the agency’s ability to reasonably accommodate any restrictions.
• Travel may be required for State business. Employees who drive on state business must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
