The Arizona Department of Agriculture is recruiting for a reliable self-starter to join our Fiscal Services team as an Accounting Specialist I. The work location for this position is 1110 W. Washington Street, Ste. 450 Phoenix AZ 85007.
Responsible for performing a variety of finance and budgeting functions and/or transactions. Performs entry level, routine accounting tasks involving basic numeric calculations for a small segment of an agency's fiscal management section. Apply accounting principles and practices used within government institutions.
Duties to include but not limited to:
• Matching invoices and purchase orders in the Arizona Procurement Portal (APP), including the review of all supporting documentation for completeness and accuracy.
• Research APP errors and customer inquiries.
• Entry of grant and non-grant payments into the AZ360 Financial system (formerly known as AFIS), including updating of encumbrance spreadsheets and balancing to AZ360 and complete monthly reconciliation.
• Responsible for preparing monthly Use Tax, which includes preparing Use Tax calculations and transfer of funds to the Department of Revenue using the AZ360 system by the scheduled due date.
• Daily compilation of agency deposits for cash, checks, wires and direct deposits, including entry into AZ360.
• Process all incoming mail and perform other duties as assigned.
• Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of:
The principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques of government accounting
Computer software, to include, APP, AFIS, AZ360, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft programs, and Google Suite programs
Reconciliation procedures and practices
Use Tax calculations, Basic math skills
Good customer service practices

Interpersonal skills in dealing with internal and external customers
Ability to:
Multi task and prioritize work
Accurately enter data into AZ360, logs and APP
Research, investigate and compile data when needed
Prepare and track monthly reports and logs

Work in team environment or individually
Follow set guidelines and verbal instruction
Experience with AZ360, AFIS, APP, Adobe Acrobat, Microsoft Word and Excel, Google Sheets, and Gmail
2 or more years in a Fiscal Services environment
Valid driver's License

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Mandatory condition of Employment for all employees who meet the eligibility and membership criteria defined in statue. Current contribution rate is 12.27%. Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
