ACCOUNTING SPECIALIST III

Work Schedule:  Monday - Friday, 8:00-5:00

This position will work in-person at our Phoenix Office.
Remote work is not available.

Job Summary:

The Registrar of Contractors (ROC) is a government agency that licenses construction companies within the State of Arizona. We have a small, but busy, 3 person accounting team that handles all financial transactions for the agency. We are currently looking for an Accounting Specialist III to join our team.

Job Duties:
  • Process invoices within the State of Arizona procurement and accounting system
  • Coordinate with vendors and agency procurement personnel
  • Create journal entries
  • Process customer refunds
  • Set up customer bonds and process withdrawals
  • Process payment distributions including pay-outs and inter-agency transfers
  • Identify and process revenue write-offs
  • Review time entries and leave slips for payroll and follow up with appropriate personnel.
  • Fill in for the cashier when needed (includes accepting payments and assisting customers at the front counter, preparing/reconciling daily deposits, and end of day closing)
  • Perform month end reconciliations
  • Enter payroll related entries in the payroll system
  • Assist with fiscal year end tasks
  • Other projects and duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):
  • Ability to interpret and apply accounting, payroll, and agency policies/procedures
  • Ability to work on a team and independently
  • Knowledge of GAAP
  • Ability to use multiple software programs including a custom agency database to process transactions
  • Knowledge of accounting practices including journal entrees, reconciliation procedures, etc.
  • Excellent communication skills with internal and external customers and vendors
Selective Preference(s):
  • 3 years experience in accounting, bookkeeping, finance, or a related field
  • An associate's or bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field
  • Any combination of experience and education that would enable the candidate to perform the job duties
  • 10 key experience
