Position Overview:

The Arts Commission maintains a lifelong learning mission, promoting and supporting learning in, through and about the arts in formal and informal settings for all ages.

The Arts Learning Coordinator assists with the development of, and coordinates the agency’s Arts Learning grants, programs, and initiatives.

The ideal candidate:

Has experience working alongside teaching artists, educators, young people, and community leaders to coordinate projects, and possesses strong administrative skills, the ability to engage others in productive collaboration, and an interest in ongoing learning.

Is a creative, energetic individual who values the agency’s mission and authentic community engagement.

Overall, this position:

• Prioritizes ethical engagement and active dialogue in alignment with the agency’s mission, cultural equity values, and statewide service area

• Collaborates with team members to identify and work to undo inequities in agency practices and distribution of/access to resources

• Persistently drives toward increased transparency and a more equitable distribution of resources

Primary Responsibilities:

40% │ Grantmaking Administration:

• Construct and deliver clear, accurate and accessible guidelines, instructions, and other materials for use by applicants, recipients, and review panelists

• Co-create and implement systems that engage arts learning practitioners and community members in grantmaking processes

• Coordinate and co-lead professional development training opportunities for arts learning grant applicants

• Conduct data collection, compile statistics, and design reports to monitor and evaluate program efficacy

• Counsel, consult with, and provide technical assistance to grant applicants, recipients, and panelists

• Coordinate delivery and receipt of grantee materials; monitor receipt against established deadlines

• Co-design and coordinate operating procedures and application processes for arts learning grants

• Review and make recommendations for funding for internally reviewed grants programs

• Monitor and facilitate associated archival and records retention systems

• Develop accessible grantee forms and tools for diverse constituencies

• Coordinate and facilitate review processes and panel proceedings

30% │ Programs and Services:

• Coordinate the statewide Poetry Out Loud (POL) program, a federal initiative of the National Endowment on the Arts (NEA) in partnership with the Poetry Foundation by:

1. Supporting POL State Partner, the University of Arizona Poetry Center, and the POL Regional partners in their administration of the program.

2. Completing application and reporting requirements to the NEA; ensure compliance with national program standards.

3. Monitoring overall program budget, administering grant funds to the State Partner.

• Support, coordinate, and participate in community, inter-agency, local, state, national, and Tribal partnerships related to arts learning programs, initiatives, and grants

• Co-create and implement meaningful and accessible arts learning programs for diverse constituencies working in myriad artistic disciplines and learning environments

• Conduct data collection, analyze outcomes, and design reports to monitor and evaluate program impact

• Participate in compilation and distribution of arts learning-focused communications efforts

• Counsel, consult with, and provide technical assistance to diverse stakeholders

• Co-create and curate arts learning resources and tools for statewide use

• Identify community partners and build lasting, reciprocal relationships

20% │ Planning and Development:

• Collaborate with the Arts Learning Director in the planning and development of arts learning programs, initiatives, and grants, recommending standards, goals, policies, and budgets

• Maintain familiarity and knowledge relevant to best practices, emergent strategies, and field resources in arts learning programs and services

• Utilize dialogue, feedback, and other data to analyze processes and procedures, develop and implement methods for improvement

• Aid in the compilation and distribution of Arts Learning communications

10% │Other Duties:

• Correspond with constituents and develop sufficient knowledge of agency programs, procedures, and policy to respond accurately and comprehensively to requests for information

• Provide backup to programs and operations as needed in a small agency

Candidate Qualifications:

The following (or any combination of experience/education that has resulted in comparable Knowledge, Skills, Abilities):

• One or more years of professional experience within a nonprofit organization, government agency, tribal entity, educational institution, or other arts and culture sector entity

• A Bachelor's degree in a specific arts discipline, arts administration, social sciences, cultural studies, nonprofit administration, education, liberal arts, or related discipline

Desired Qualifications:

• Background or current practice in a creative discipline a plus

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

• Willingness to travel on occasion

Pre-Employment Requirements:

• Ability to possess and maintain a valid Arizona Driver's License and operate a motor vehicle

• Ability to maintain a clean driving record
