Works under limited supervision in performing complex auditing reviews for city, county, and state. Advises on the requirements, liabilities, and penalties of compliance and noncompliance. Prepares audit reports, outlines, drafts, and final reports.
Provides advice and/or recommendations on corrective actions. May provide testimony at formal or informal hearings.
This position will require occasional overnight travel throughout Arizona to assist sub-grantees with grant processes and to conduct evaluations. Travel up to 20% (approximate).
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
• Compares data from sources to assure compliance with technical specifications, using judgment and relying upon considerable knowledge of the subject materials
• Conducts desk reviews and/or audits, some limited field reviews and/or audits with each subgrantee at least once annually, examining all source documentation
• Examines financial records, payrolls, contracts, inventories, equipment, budgets, and other financial documents for validity and correctness
• Attends periodic workshops or training sessions to improve working knowledge and skills at senior worker level in work systems
• Review and examine contracts of city, county, and state organizations for audit compliance and resolution of applicable findings
• Analyzes and evaluates work procedures, methods, and rules for the work unit
• Writes detailed reports based on audit reviews
• Monitor and recommend changes
Knowledge of:
• Knowledge of Federal and State rules and regulations pertaining to various grant programs
• Policies and procedures utilized within various criminal justice agencies in Arizona
• Computers and accounting software
• Principles of auditing
Skills in:
• Interpretation and application of appropriate Federal and State laws and regulations
• Oral and written communication
• Time Management
Abilities in:
• Express delicate information in a confidential and informed manner without expressing accusations or blame
• Maintain the confidentiality of information and release only to authorized personnel
• Apply audit and accounting methods
• A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Accounting, Business Administration, or related field OR completion of twelve semester hours of accounting and two years of professional financial auditing, program compliance auditing, or closely related field
• Preference is given to accounting or auditing experience with a state or federal agency
• AZ Driver's License
