Job Summary:

LOCATION ALERT: This position is located at the Arizona State Prison Complex - Lewis which is located between Buckeye and Gila Bend; this is 55 miles from central Phoenix.

This position is routinely involved on a daily basis in many different types of duties and tasks of general facility maintenance, repair and construction to include preventative maintenance and assignments as well as but not limited to plumbing, electrical, HVAC, kitchen equipment repairs and utility service systems. This position also ensures all work complies with national and local building codes and the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) laws and rules at the Arizona State Prison Complex – Lewis. Job Duties:

- Schedules and plans maintenance related projects to include pricing, material lists, equipment and needs
- Performs maintenance and preventative maintenance tasks as required and scheduled
- Completes related documentation as required by policy and as directed by supervisor
- Basic knowledge of office equipment to include computers, internet research and completion of documents
- Inspects and maintains tools and equipment to ensure proper working order and all are accounted for
- Supervises and evaluates inmate workers’ performance
- Attends staff meetings and training as required
- Conducts inspections
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Structural issues regarding building and utility service systems to include blueprints and safety practices and codes
- All trades (i.e., electronic, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, general facility maintenance and preventive maintenance, etc.)
- Budget issues including estimating costs and ordering of materials
- Common and specialized tools for performing duties
- OSHA guidelines and the national and local building codes/regulations

Skill in:
- Basic reading of blueprints and schematics, general construction, mechanical devices, electrical, preventative maintenance
- Using and demonstrating use of common and specialized tools
- Written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills

Ability to:
- Work in a prison environment and supervise inmate work crews

Selective Preference(s):

- Technical training from specialized trade school and/or unions

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

All newly hired State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify).
