Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) Executive team is seeking a driven leader to join our team as a Deputy Assistant Director for our Education, Programs, and Community Reentry Division. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, the Deputy Assistant Director administers, coordinates, recommends, and implements programs and systems related to inmate self-improvement and treatment programs, and transition-related services. Provides direct supervision over Education, Programs, Faith Services, Counseling & Treatment, while working alongside the Deputy Assistant Director of Community Reentry. The ideal candidate will have experience in risk/needs assessment tools and the application of programming and treatment.

Job Duties:

- Provides oversight to all program administrators to ensure program efforts are current, evidence-based, and in compliance with the Department’s vision
- Works in conjunction with program administers to resource modern efforts to deliver services to inmates
- Works in conjunction with other divisions to identify, implement and continue efforts to increase the Department's ability to properly assess inmates upon intake to develop individualized plans for programming and reentry efforts
- Administers and ensures coordination and implementation of self-improvement programs
- Administers and ensures coordination and implementation of quality assurance activities and performs reporting related to self-improvement and treatment and other major programs to ensure program fidelity
- Administers and ensures coordination with the Prison Operations Divisions to the implementation of the Correctional Officer III Academy to ensure newly hired COIIIs are provided with the appropriate training relative to the needs of the position
- Administers and ensures coordination and implementation of valid case management techniques and principles are employed effectively by the Correctional Officer COIII's
- Develops and tracks performance metrics
- Participates in internal and external meetings, seminars, workshops, and initiates to further Division and department goals and activities
- Provides input, support and any other assistance as determined by the Assistant Director to further the division and/or - Department's mission
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

- ADCRR policies and procedures
- Laws, rules and regulations pertaining to the assignment
- Concepts and practices of correctional educational/career technical education, correctional addictions treatment, criminal thinking self-improvement programs, correctional industries, community correction supervision, programs, and prison operations
- Corrections research related to inmate programs and operations

Skill in:

- Verbal and written communications
- Coaching and training
- Organizational and vision management
- Continuous improvement principles and techniques
- Research and statistical concepts to comprehend and develop reports and statistical models in conjunction with the Research Department
- Project management techniques to organize and/or manage correctional initiatives
- Information technology business analysis techniques to develop automated solutions where appropriate

Ability to:

- Operate a computer, laptop and associated office software
- Evaluate effective programs in the correctional setting
- Develop, track and implement projects strategically
- Lead and mentor staff
- Develop effective management systems and practices
- Interpret and enforce state and federal laws
- Decipher and implement agency policies and procedures

Selective Preference(s):

- Bachelor's degree in Criminal Justice, Social Work, or related field
- Proven experience in corrections, criminal justice, or related field
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to manage teams effectively
- Proven experience in sex offender and/or substance use treatment
- Minimum five(5) years of proven experience in corrections, criminal justice, case management, and programming
- Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation.

In an effort to maintain a safe environment, all employees are required to take a Tuberculosis (TB) test during their New Employee Orientation and every year thereafter.

An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Arizona State Retirement System (ASRS). Enrollment eligibility will become effective after 27 weeks of employment.
