The Arizona Department of Corrections, Rehabilitation & Reentry (ADCRR) is searching for observant and dependable Electricians to perform installation and restoration work. These positions are routinely involved in skilled electrical duties in the installation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of prison facilities and equipment at Arizona State Prison Complex-Lewis. Job Duties:

- Supervises and teaches new electrical skills/safety training for inmate worker
- Performs preventative maintenance on back-up generators
- Repairs/replaces electrical components based on the interpretation and understanding of blueprints, sketches, schematic and drawings utilizing specialized tools of the trade
- Performs repairs and service for all electrical systems and/or appliances
- Ensures all electrically controlled gates/doors are in proper working condition
- Maintains and ensures that all security lights as well as non-security are light fixtures are in working order
- Repairs waste water equipment when applicable
- Inspects all electrical panels and ensure they are in proper working condition
- Exercises and tests all emergency transfer switches
- Tracks work order and purchases requests for electrical components, get estimates on material costs
- Drives on State business
- Performs other duties appropriate to the assignment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- Methods and practices of electrical remodeling, constructing, installing, and replacing major utility services
- Reading and understanding blue prints, sketches and schematic relating to building and utilities
- Applying and understanding National and local building codes and common safety practices
- Trade of electrician
- Commercial electrical system 227v, 480v, and above
- Using common and specialized tools, equipment and materials
- Ordering and estimating materials and costs
- Knowledge of basic computer skills, Excel and MS Word to form reports, charts and conduct research

Skill in:
- Repairing, replacing or modifying old services in order to update or conform with new requirements
- Performing preventative maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting or replacing motors, generator, batteries, clocks, pumps, belts, public address systems, etc.
- Reading and interpreting schematics to determine standards or procedures to follow in repairing or installing electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances
- Installing conduit, wiring, outlets, fixtures, switches, circuit boards and services for the increased electrical power needs in state buildings
- Testing electrical apparatuses with various meters to detect short, worn out, or weak components and defective connections
- Operating articulating boom lift equipment for the repair of any pole lights
- Establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships
- Written and verbal communication

Ability to:
- Read and understand blue prints, sketches and schematic relating to buildings and utilities
- Methods and practices of electrical remodeling and construction and installing and replacing major utility services
- Apply and understand National and local building codes and common safety practices
- Use common and specialized tools, equipment and material
- Order and estimate materials and costs
- Work in a prison environment
- Supervise inmate work crews on electrical repairs
- Lift/Carry 70lbs
- Push/Pull 80lbs
- Walk/Run 0.25 miles

Selective Preference(s):

- Four (4) or more years of experience in the commercial electrical industry
- Minimum two (2) years of hands-on training working with a licensed contractor and a combination of training and experience that meets the knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted
- One (1) year of journey-level electrical experience

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a background investigation, drug test, and a medical/physical examination

Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

Positions in this classification participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).
