ARIZONA EXPOSITION AND STATE FAIR BOARD

The Arizona Exposition and State Fair (AESF) has been an annual tradition since 1884, providing unlimited opportunities to celebrate Arizona’s culture and community. The Arizona State Fair is the largest single event in the State, bringing over 1.5 million people together each Fall for food, fun, and memories that last a lifetime.

ELECTRICIAN - SKILLBRIDGE

Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge internship

Must be separating from the Military

Has served at least 180 days on active duty

Job Summary:

Our Electrician will serve as the lead journeyman-level qualified electrician for the Arizona State Fair.

Under general direction, set all electrical needs for show adhering to established deadlines with shifting priorities, including vendors and concessions; repair, replace or modify old services in order to update or conform with new requirements; perform preventative maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting and/or replacing motors, generators, batteries, clocks, pumps, bells, and HVAC units.

Maintenance and installation of overhead electrical systems, read and interpret wiring schematics to determine standards or to follow procedures in repair or installation of electrical wiring, fixtures, or appliances. Install conduit, wiring, outlets, fixtures, switches, timers, circuit boards, and other services for increased electrical power needs in the buildings. Use and operate High-lift equipment. Tests electrical apparatus with various meters to detect shorts, worn out or weak components, and defective connections. Keeps records on work performed and materials used. Order materials when needed and keep inventory records. Perform related work as required. Research new electrical products currently in the market. Maintain an electric shop; assist other trades as needed, etc.

Provide a high level of customer service by following the company's core values when dealing with internal or external customers. Must be able to work extended hours all days of the week and be on call evenings and weekends throughout the year.

Job Duties:

• Repair, replace, or modify existing services to update or conform with new requirements; perform preventative maintenance; read and interpret schematics to determine standards to procedures to follow in repair or installation of electrical wiring; install new and replace conduit, wiring, outlets, fixtures, switches, circuit boards and services for increased electrical power needs in buildings, use and operate high lift; test electrical apparatus with various meters to detect shorts, worn out or weak components or defective connections

• Complete necessary paperwork or reports as required

• Perform safety checks on all equipment used in the completion of the job while following OSHA standards, including reporting any unsafe condition to the supervisor to keep a safe working environment

• Address any and all issues in an efficient manner and document the outcome, as requested by the supervisor

• Implement the electrical responsibilities in order to comply with the State-mandated requirements and the Arizona Expo & State Fair

• Order materials when needed; maintain inventory records; adhere to all safety rules and national and local building codes; assist other trades as needed

• Install electrical drops outside from power lines for ticket booths, concessions, and miscellaneous exhibits

• Create electrical hook-ups from electrical bus ducts in buildings for shows and events and make changes when necessary

• Monitors electric load on grounds during major events and the Arizona State Fair, and relays all necessary information to the supervisor

• Assists in determining the number of additional electricians needed to set up for the State Fair

• Maintain daily contact with electrical contractors and monitor work being done

• Lead worker for lower-level electrical/maintenance workers in the coordination and installation of all electrical appliances, equipment, materials, and HVAC units and the overall maintenance and preventative maintenance of all electrical systems

• Coordinates with the purchasing coordinator, electrical materials needed by the maintenance Department of the Arizona Expo & State Fair

• Works closely with event personnel to make sure all program needs are met

• Conducts a thorough inspection of building(s) prior to the event(s) and immediately after the event(s)

• Prepares reports for the maintenance office indicating any damages so steps can be taken to contact the person in charge of the event for reimbursement

• Assists in the setup, clean up, and removal of programs and rental events

• Maintain proper electrical inventory control and report any discrepancies to the supervisor

• Plan, coordinate, and implement the essential electrical power needs and functions of the Maintenance/Events departments, using set-up sheets to maintain high-quality standards under the supervision of the events and operations supervisors

• Research new electrical products currently in the market (i.e. online, in-store, or otherwise), that will support the Arizona Expo & State Fair needs

• Procure heavy equipment rentals for the electrical department

• Work with management in preparing a list of electrical equipment that needs future replacement

• Parking lot lighting, building transformers, MCC panels

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:

• Temporary electric systems management and installation

• Methods and practices of electrical remodeling and construction and installing and replacing major electric service components; in reading and understanding blueprints, sketches and schematics relating to building and utilities; in applying and understanding National and local building codes and common safety practices in the trade of an electrician; knowledge of commercial electrical systems 277v, 480v and above; in using common and specialized tools, equipment and materials (e.g. wiring, switches, lighting, transformers, switchboards, motor control centers; in ordering and estimating materials and costs

• OSHA regulatory requirements including personal protective Equipment (PPE) to safely complete work assignments

• Basic use of computer applications (e.g. Microsoft Office, Microsoft Project, Microsoft Outlook) to assist in the completion of various work assignments (e.g. budget development, scheduling, correspondence)

Skills:

• In repairing, replacing or modifying old services in order to update or conform with new requirements; performing preventative maintenance by inspecting, cleaning, adjusting or replacing motors, generators, batteries, clocks, pumps, belts, etc; reading and interpreting schematics to determine standards or procedures to follow in repairing or installing electrical wiring, fixtures, appliances; installing conduit, wiring outlets, fixtures, switches, circuit boards, and service for the increased electrical power needs in our buildings; testing electrical apparatus with various meters to detect shorts, worn out or weak components, defective connections; operating articulating boom lift equipment for the repair of any pole lights; establishing and maintaining interpersonal relationships; oral and written communication

• Using hand and power tools proficiently to ensure the safe and proper operation of the tools while performing daily assignments

• Troubleshoot electrical systems and components independently, utilizing the proper tools and equipment, in order to ensure the safe and proper operation and adherence to electrical and building codes

• Safely work in hazardous conditions

• Installation of limited underground wiring, utilizing machinery and tools in order to complete the assigned project and meet the needs of the Arizona Expo & State Fairgrounds

• Develop, coordinate, and implement methods of electrical work for new construction projects, using the project management protocol to maintain deadlines and maintain a high standard of quality as requested by the supervisor

Abilities:

• Read and understand blueprints, sketches, and schematics relating to building and utilities; methods and practices of electrical remodeling and construction and installing and replacing major electrical system components; apply and understand National and local building codes and common safety practices; use specialized tools; equipment and material; order and estimate materials and cost; follow oral and written instructions; establish and maintain effective working relationships manage time effectively; keep simple records; ability to interact with people; ability to learn to operate equipment safely

• Safely lift 50 pounds in order to accomplish work assignments

• Maintain a calm demeanor in stressful situations in order to complete assigned work safely and accurately

• Use hand/power tools (e.g.meters, tuggers, pulling tapes, wire strippers, crimpers, conduit benders, and cutters), to ensure safe operation for the electrician and proper operation of the tools during the performance of daily assignments

• Proficiently operate office equipment (e.g. computers, faxes, and copiers) including sending emails and maintaining records, in order to coordinate and complete duties efficiently

• Obtain certification for powered industrial vehicles (e.g. forklifts, hand lifts, articulating boom lifts) to perform assigned duties independently

• Perform physical activities that require considerable use of limbs and body parts, such as, but not limited to: climbing, crawling, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, and handling of materials, in order to complete the task in a safe manner

• Make sound decisions independently, along with coordination of the maintenance and event staff to uphold the Arizona Expo & State Fair values

• Be a strong team leader through the use of multifaceted leadership skill sets under the supervision of the supervisor

• Maintain a professional appearance to endure professional representation of the Arizona Expo & State Fair

• Work extended hours and or varying shifts all days of the week as requested in order to maintain adequate coverage during operation
