Environmental Epidemiology Intern

POSTING DETAILS:
 
- The Environmental Epidemiology intern will join our team for 14-19 weeks, working 16-20 hours each week.
- Start date - As soon as you’re ready we can accommodate your class schedule so that you may work during business hours.
-You will need to upload a copy of your resume, transcripts, and cover letter explaining how your skills are a good fit for this position, must have a current GPA standing of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
- Compensation based on education and experience.

 

JOB SUMMARY:
-We are seeking a talented and engaged intern who is working toward a degree in public health and wants to develop beyond the classroom!
-You would be a great fit if you have excelled in and/or enjoyed courses such as Environmental and Occupational Health, Epidemiology, and Public Health. 
-In this role, you will gain experience working in the Office of Environmental Epidemiology at ADHS. You will have the opportunity to gain hands-on experience coordinating data collection, analysis, and visualization, and ultimately identifying and implementing new outreach and education strategies. 
-You will be coached and mentored by the Environmental Toxicology Program Manager along with the Environmental Health Epidemiologist and others in the Office of Environmental Epidemiology by collaborating with them on projects. 
 
YOU WILL BRING THE FOLLOWING TO THE INTERNSHIP: 
● Strong verbal and written communication skills.
● Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
● Knowledge of epidemiology principles, methods, and practices.
● Knowledge of Google Workspace, including Google Sites, Forms, Docs, Sheets, Slides, and Drive and/or the ability to quickly learn new technology platforms. 
● Knowledge of the design and accessibility of documents and the different types of products/materials used to communicate public health information. 
● Experience or interest in learning programs like MEDSIS, SAS, Power BI, Canva, and Adobe Illustrator.
● Time management, organization, planning, and problem-solving skills. 
● Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of disease control, prevention, and intervention.
● Dedication to advancing health equity.
● Strong skills in planning, researching, and analyzing. 
 
YOU WILL GAIN THE FOLLOWING FROM THIS INTERNSHIP:
● Experience managing, analyzing, and visualizing environmental health data.
● Skills for effective communication with a diverse team of public health professionals and the general public.
● Identifying and developing programming based on the request of the community and previous program data. 
● Improved understanding of performing outreach and building collaborative relationships with stakeholders. 
● Skills to best communicate health information with various audiences.
● Knowledge of the design and accessibility of documents and different types of products/materials used to communicate public health information. 
● Collaboration with a diverse team of professionals. 
SELECTIVE PREFERENCES:
  • Working towards a degree and a strong desire to develop beyond the classroom.
  • Experience in epidemiology including volunteer/internship and campus-based experience. 
  • Experience (including volunteer/internship), coursework, or interest in public health, epidemiology, occupational health, or environmental health
