Equipment Repair Technician

Must be able to complete a minimum of 8 weeks and up to a maximum of 6 months SkillBridge Internship

*If you are a skilled and experienced mechanic with a passion for problem solving and diagnosing, and you want to be part of an elite team working on a variety of automotive and medium/heavy duty construction equipment, then this is the perfect opportunity for you! This Equipment Repair Technician position offers a great opportunity for you to combine your journey level mechanical experience and your excellent diagnostic skills in maintaining the Light/Heavy Equipment Fleet for ADOT. *This position is eligible to participate in the ASE Stipend Pay Program, employees can earn up to $14,400 a year with qualifying certifications. We reimburse 100% of the cost for passed tests and offer training assistance!

*Uniforms provided to shop employees at no charge and are eligible to participate in the Safety-toe Shoe reimbursement program (100% of cost up to $250.00 every other calendar year)

*Personal Tool Allowance of $1000.00 per calendar year and Personal Tool Insurance Coverage 100% for qualified losses on state premises

*Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm

*Anticipated hiring salary is $23.5741 hourly ($49,034 annually) with a potential to earn up to $30.4971 hourly ($63,434 annually) when ASE Triple Master Certified Technician status is obtained.

This is an Internship DOD SkillBridge position

This internship can be up to 6 months, depending on Service Member's availability

Upon success completion of the internship, if selected for full time employment the pay range will be: $44,034.00 - $54,034.00 with an anticipated salary of $49,037.12

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for performing highly skilled diagnostic, inspections, and mechanical repairs of electrical, electronic, and/or hydraulic systems on a wide variety of automotive/construction equipment.

Job Duties:

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  •  Diagnose and repair gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engines and
    operational, mechanical, hydraulic, & electrical malfunctions of equipment.
  • Inspect a wide variety of automotive and/or heavy construction equipment in
    accordance with safety/scheduled preventative maintenance checklists.
  • Perform preventative maintenance and service/repair a wide variety of automotive
    and/or heavy construction equipment on-site using a mobile repair/lube truck.
  • Operate vehicles and/or equipment requiring a driver’s license.
  • Fabricate and modification of various equipment.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:

  • Power/drive train system inspection, diagnosis and repair procedures.
  • Electrical systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Electronic control systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Computerized diagnostic analyzer use procedures and practices.
  • Hydraulic systems inspection, diagnosis, and repair procedures.
  • Operating principles of gasoline and diesel powered internal combustion engines.
  • Fleet maintenance shop safety principles and practices.
  • Record keeping principles and practices.

Skills in:

  • Repairing and maintaining mechanical, electrical, electronic and automotive/heavy
    construction equipment.
  • Operating computerized diagnostic analyzer equipment.
  • Estimating time cost of repair maintenance work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy
    construction equipment.
  • Scheduling/coordinating automotive/heavy construction equipment service and repair
    to maximize utilization.

Ability to: 

  •  Follow oral and written instructions.
  • Interpret repair manuals, service bulletins and recall bulletins.
  • Utilize a PC and PC programs such as Microsoft Office and Google Workspace.
  • Manage time effectively.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs and push/pull 90 lbs; pass a physical exam.
Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Two years of job experience (i.e lube/oil change, tire mounting/repair and preventative
    maintenance checks on a variety of vehicles/equipment) in automotive/heavy
    equipment.
  • Automotive Service of Excellence (ASE) Master Certification in Automobile and Light
    Truck preferred but not required.
  • EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months
    of employment.
  • Successful candidate must have their own tools for the position.
Pre-Employment Requirements:

Employment is contingent upon passing a medical/physical examination.

the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business
must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
