Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Water Resources (ADWR) has an excellent opportunity for a highly-skilled and motivated student Intern! 

This position will assist with the groundwater rights conveyance efforts within the Active Management Area (AMA) Section.

Schedule: Hours may vary up to 40 hours per week.

Job Duties:

This internship position would assist the Conveyances team by:

  • Reviewing groundwater right conveyance applications
  • Reviewing, inputting, analyzing, and interpreting water resources data
  • Updating and correcting maps related to conveyances of groundwater rights
  • Assisting with compliance processes for the section including tracking incoming applications and completing Licensing Timeframe Reports
  • Organizing and uploading documents for the program
  • Opportunity to edit and update Power BI dashboards
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The ideal candidate should have:

Knowledge of

  • The occurrence, behavior, and significance of water in nature
  • Knowledge and/or interest in water management
  • Experience with Google Drive, Adobe, and Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)

Skills and interest in:

  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication, written and verbal correspondence
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Data entry as well as quality assurance and quality control
  • Using and creating spreadsheets, databases and statistical systems
  • Researching, reading, analyzing and evaluating documents
  • Analyzing and interpreting data to draw conclusions

Ability to:

  • Use computers to retrieve and organize water resource management data
  • Communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and written format
  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with various levels of governmental and regulated officials, community leaders and the public
  • Follow standard work and procedures
  • Meet deadline
  • Self-motivate
Selective Preference(s):

Candidates must be enrolled in school and pursuing a degree in Water Resource Management, GIS, Geology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Sustainability, or a similar field.
