Once fully trained, telework may be available up to 4 days a week.

Job Summary:

The Registrar of Contractors (ROC) Legal Department oversees roughly 1200 legal actions per year throughout the State of Arizona. This fast-paced unit processes cases for the Office of Administrative Hearings, public records requests, felony background checks on license applicants, requests for payout from the Recovery Fund, and provides legal guidance to all ROC departments. The Legal Department work is diverse, interesting and important to the mission of the agency.
This critical position is part of the legal team and reports to a Paralegal Manager.

Job Duties:
  • Draft routine legal documents such as Citations, Orders, , document requests, letters, etc.
  • Communicate with customers (complainants, respondents, and legal counsel) orally and in writing to provide information and assistance with Legal and Recovery Fund Department procedures.
  • Review and respond appropriately to documents received from parties or other agencies.
  • Conduct reviews of Recovery Fund claims, determine awards, and testify in administrative hearings while represented by the Arizona Attorney General's Office.
  • Review criminal records of license applicants.
  • Assist with projects assigned by Legal Department Leadership.
A Successful Legal Assistant II will have the following skills and attributes:
  • 1+ years experience in a legal setting or a higher educational degree.
  • Excellent work ethic and organizational skills.
  • Friendly and approachable disposition.
  • Maintain accountability, particularly in a remote work environment.
  • Detail-oriented with a high degree of accuracy.
  • Able work independently and on team assignments.
  • Present professional image to agency customers in person and on the phone.
  • Understanding of Arizona statutes and regulations pertaining to contractor licensing.
  • Comfortable drafting legal documents.
  • Knowledgeable with computers and office programs.
  • Works well with a team of paralegals, attorneys, investigators, and agency leadership.
  • Self-monitors work to avoid mistakes. Uses mistakes as an opportunity to learn.
  • Ability to adapt to process-procedure changes and implement them into their work product.
