The Arizona Attorney General’s Office is seeking a Paralegal Supervisor position for the Child and Family Protection Division, Protective Services Section. This position reports directly to the Unit Office Administrator (OA) and will provide training, guidance and leadership to unit Paralegal IIIs (LAIII).
Remote Options: This position may be eligible for Remote Work two days a week.
The incumbent of this position will oversee the duties and job functions of the assigned paralegals, ensuring timely filed and prepared documents; manage case load and distribution when a position is vacant or a staff member is on annual or sick leave; work closely with the assistant attorneys general (AAG) maintaining a cohesive working relationship between the support staff and the AAGs. The position also will provide support for one or more AAGs including; performing legal research, gathering evidence for trials; drafting and preparing legal pleadings, briefs, opinions, and legislation necessary for the processing of dependency/severance cases referred by the client; answer inquiries clients, court personnel, and others regarding case activity and status using automated case management systems to maintain and track case records and activity; comply with all laws rules and office policies and procedures. Approval of Electronic Timecard Entry (ETE) leave requests, performing other supervisory functions under the direction of the Unit OA and Section OA and the completion of additional duties as assigned by supervising personnel such as related to reviewing, creating, and processing materials and information of a confidential nature by federal and state laws are also the responsibility of the incumbent of this position.
Knowledge
• Organizational and functional structure of state agency; methods and techniques involved in conducting analytical studies of administrative and management practices, methods and procedures.
• Practical application of computers and peripheral equipment; inventory control and space management.
• Knowledge and understanding of applicable statutes, rules, and regulations of state and federal courts.
• Knowledge of legal research techniques, terminology, forms, court procedures and applicable time frames in general and specifically and extensive knowledge of Juvenile Court Rules of dependency, severance, and guardianship practice.
• The principles, concepts, practices, methods and techniques common to a modern law office.
Skill
• Supervisory ability; communicating effectively orally and in writing.
• Prepare comprehensive analysis and reports, correspondence and other written materials. Proficient in work processing and spreadsheet techniques.
• Skill in coordination of legal requests, inquires and responses expeditiously.
• Skills in conducting and controlling interviews with witnesses and parties involved in legal action.
Ability
• Perform duties independently or under minimal supervision; research, analyze, and make recommendations on administrative management and procedural practices; write logic, comprehensive, concise reports and correspondence.
• Establish and maintain effective and cooperative working relationships. Use computer related peripheral equipment, prioritize work efficiently.
• Support staff: develop and train others in following procedures and instructions for administrative activities; effectively represent the Division to other agencies and the public.
The ideal candidate will have leadership experience and two years full-time employment as a paralegal; or a paralegal certification through an institutionally accredited program and one year of full-time employment as a paralegal.
• Travel may be required for this position. A valid Arizona Driver’s License is required, along with consent to have your driving record run periodically.
