Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is seeking Licensed Practical Pool Nurses who will be working under the general direction of the Correctional Registered Nurse (CRN). This position is responsible for performing daily nursing and healthcare to the physically ill, infirmed, or injured youth in a correctional setting. This is a pool position (temporary) and is not eligible for benefits. This position will be utilized to fill staffing shortages as needed. We are looking for LPNs that can work a minimum of 15 hours per week, with a flexible or set schedule. All shifts available, 3rd shift preferred and weekends preferred.

 

Job Duties:

-Performs medical/physical evaluation; obtains and processes blood, urine and other specimens; administers and reads yearly tuberculosis (TB)   vaccines; performs/administers medical First Aid and CPR to youth, staff and visitors
-Assists Health Providers; counsels and instructs both staff and youth regarding health concerns
-Conducts initial evaluations of new youth commitments and parole violators; monitors, records and reports symptoms and changes in youth’s   conditions
-Maintains files, reports and records; sustains medical supplies, equipment and package instruments
-Provides and responds to emergency care to youth and/or staff; records medical information and vital signs
-Consults and coordinates with healthcare team members; reports all industrial injuries within required time frame
-Assists in Quality Improvement audits; maintains health sanitation and disposal of hazardous waste; and ensures emergency trauma bag/kits   and supplies are up to date
-Performing other duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:

-Assessment/evaluation of physical and mental health needs
-Emergency procedures including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/First Aid (CPR/First Aid)
-All aspects of medication administration including monitoring for side effects
-Nursing techniques, methods, procedures and protocols
-Proper administration and reading of tuberculosis (TB) vaccinations and results
-Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) rules/regulations
-Current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines

Skill in:

-Medical assessment/evaluation methods and practices including suicide prevention
-Medical record documentation
-Verbal and written communication
-Interpersonal relationships
-Organizing workload
-Phlebotomy
-Reading TB test results
-Administering vaccinations
-Responding to emergency situations
-Computer software including but not limited to Google Suite

Ability to:

-Observe and adhere to ADJC’s security precautions at all times and to assume responsibility for security of health unit area and equipment
-Work cooperatively with correctional custody, treatment team and medical staff
-Keep accurate and timely records and write reports
-Interpret and correctly implement health care provider’s orders
-Maintain strict confidentiality pertaining to medical/health related information
-Work with all aspects of the Arizona Nurse Practice Act scope of practice
-Complete and submit timesheets timely and accurately
-Work in a correctional setting

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Requires possession of a valid Registered Nurse Certification without restrictions in the State of Arizona or have a valid Registered Nurse Certification from a state that participates in the Interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).
