Arizona State Parks and Trails protects and preserves 30 State Parks and Natural Areas. The agency also includes the State Trails Program, outdoor-related Grants Program, the State Historic Preservation Office, as well as the Off-Highway Vehicle Program, and more. Job Summary:

Performs professional work in graphic design, website graphics, and document layout; prepares signage, maps, brochures, booklets and other printed material; coordinates activities with commercial printers; provides graphic design for park operations; maintains graphics and administrative files; creates print-ready advertisements and documents. Responsible for the quality and timeliness of artwork; for overseeing all printed materials for parks and the central office and other administrative activities. Strong writing skills, ability to write website content, and ability to work in a website content management system necessary. Some knowledge of HTML preferred but not required. Makes presentations or staff outreach booths at events, to clubs or at conferences. Works under supervision of the Deputy Assistant Director.

This position is available for remote work within Arizona (with occasional 1 day per week in the office/hoteling).

Job Duties:

• Designs and produces high-quality agency collateral, including advertising, brochures, business cards, web graphics, e-newsletters, and other marketing materials. Define messaging as appropriate for campaigns and public information.
• Coordinates art projects through stages in order to meet deadlines.
• Performs professional-level work in illustration, graphic design, layout and/or general graphics production.
• Designs, edits and produces existing material, charts, and other graphics on computer.
• Represents the communications, research and marketing team at meetings or conferences as required.
• Writes or edits content for agency website, printed materials and advertising.
• Conducts event promotions and works with agency departments and the parks.
• Create designs for agency merchandise, including mugs, gift cards, stickers, or t-shirts.
• Works on developing content for emerging marketing channels that brand the agency as forward-thinking, including producing digital content for public distribution.
• Work with other departments in the agency to develop reports or provide specific information on agency programs and funding sources to help educate the public about the range of programs ASPT manages and to position the agency as a leader.
• Partner with other state agencies, nonprofits, or industry to promote state parks and educate the public about responsible outdoor recreation.
• Travel to parks across the state, with overnight trips occasionally required.
• Perform other duties as assigned as related to the position.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
- The principles and practices of marketing, advertising, and public information.
- The preparation and production of written and visual materials and materials to be presented orally.
- Agency regulations, procedures, policies relating to assignments.
- Office practices and procedures; contemporary graphic design techniques and practices.
- Application of various tools, supplies and equipment used in graphic design work.
- Various media, materials and processes used in both traditional and electronic graphic arts reproduction.

Skill in:
- The responsible use of graphic design tools, equipment, and supplies.
- Writing copy for marketing materials and advertising; preparing materials for oral, visual or written presentation.

Ability to:
- Communicate verbally and in writing; establish and maintain effective work relationships.
- Coordinate project stages to meet deadlines.
- Apply techniques and principles of work management and leadership.
- Perform the full range of techniques of a professional graphic artist/designer.
- Do layouts and paste-ups; create exhibits and displays.

Selective Preference(s):

- Bachelor's or higher degree in marketing, business, communications, community relations or other relevant field.
- Experience in marketing, graphic design, communications, community relations, community outreach.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

Must be able to obtain, possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.

Retirement:
