Job Summary:

Are you a Medical Records professional with a passion for serving our Veterans? If so, the new Arizona Veterans home in Flagstaff, Arizona is looking for you!

The ideal candidate is responsible for the operation of our medical records program. In this capacity, you will work cooperatively with others to ensure that the facility meets federal, state, and Veteran's Administration (VA) regulatory requirements. This position plays a key role in ensuring that medical records are complete, accurately documented, readily accessible, systematically organized, and maintained in a confidential manner, while supervising Medical Records Specialists.

Additionally, the Medical Records Supervisor learns, implements, and monitors Arizona Management System (AMS) methods and utilizes AMS concepts and tools for problem- solving and continuous work/process improvements.

Job Duties:

As the Medical Records Supervisor, you will:

  • Conduct a variety of complex and routine audits
  • Monitor medical records for completeness and accuracy
  • Track all audits for follow up and report to Department Heads/Administrator
  • Compile medical care, diagnosis, and census data for statistical reports
  • Supply statistical information as needed by other ASVH departments
  • Interpret rules and regulations in maintenance of medical records and monitors the accuracy of other department documentation
  • Ensure that Physician credentialing files are complete and monitor for ongoing compliance
  • Supervise subordinate staff to ensure the goals and objectives of the work unit are met
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:

  • Rules, regulations, policies, procedures of work unit, Veterans Administration, CMS, and State regulatory standards
  • Standard medical records practices, procedures and techniques
  • Medical and legal terminology
  • Current ICD coding and indexing
  • Medicare/AHCCCS and other insurance

Skills in:

  • Communication

  • Supervision

Ability to:

  • Simultaneously manage multiple projects and adapt to changing priorities
  • Train technical and clerical staff
  • Compile statistics and prepare comprehensive reports
Selective Preference(s):
  • Previous medical records experience in a long term care facility
  • Previous supervisory experience
Pre-Employment Requirements:
  • Ability to obtain and retain a valid AZ DPS Fingerprint Clearance Card
  • Possession of a valid driver's license
  • Current Negative Tb skin test (Mantoux skin test) within the last 6 months or a written statement from a physician, physician’s assistant or a registered nurse practitioner indicating freedom from tuberculosis, if in the past has had a positive skin test or tuberculosis
