Job Summary:

The Arizona Department of Juvenile Corrections (ADJC) is searching for  MENTAL HEALTH THERAPIST candidates who are committed to making a difference in the lives of Arizona's youth. Individuals who are ready for a rewarding career providing individual, group, and family counseling; assisting in the development of individual treatment plans; and evaluating high risk/ suicidal youth. By joining the ADJC team, you will have the unique opportunity to work with like-minded professionals who are dedicated to rehabilitating Arizona's youth.

Job Duties:

• Providing individual, group, and family counseling sessions
• Evaluating high risk/ suicidal youth to determine the potential for self-injury or injury to others
• Administering, scoring, and interpreting psychological tests
• Attending team and/or board meetings to make recommendations regarding the release of a youth
• Assisting in the development of individual treatment plans
• Making unit research recommendations

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge in:
• Psychological testing in the areas of administration, scoring, interpretation and report writing
• Methods, techniques, and procedures of psychological counseling and therapy
• Research methods and statistics
• Research design

Skill in:
• Written and verbal communication
• Case management and interpersonal relations
• Computer operation, and software to include the Microsoft Office and Google Suites
• Establishing and maintaining professional work relationships

Ability to:
• Write effective summaries and reports
• Comply with Federal, State and Agency rules and regulations
• Work closely with adjudicated youth in a secure institutional setting
• Manage stressful situations
• Drive on state business
• Work in a correctional environment

Selective Preference(s):

MUST POSSESS: Master's Degree required and a current, active dependent license from the Arizona Board of Behavioral Health Examiners (AZBBHE) is required (See Arizona Revised Statute §32-3271-4) This would include the following licenses: LPC, LAC, LCSW, and LMSW. AZBBHE licensure is a condition of continued employment.

Preferred candidate will have one or more of the following:
-Two years specialty treatment experience with juveniles or young adults in one or more of the following: Substance Abuse Treatment, Sexual Behavior, Mental Health, Severe Conduct Disorder

Pre-Employment Requirements:

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function on the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license records checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.010).

All newly hires State employees are subject to and must successfully complete the Electronic Employment Eligibility Verification Program (E-Verify)

REQUIRED: Employment is contingent on the selected applicant passing a comprehensive background investigation, behavioral assessment, drug screening.  No felony convictions

Retirement:

Positions in this classification participate in the Correctional Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).

CORP Tier 3 is a Defined Contribution, 401 (a) retirement plan
-New members have the opportunity to define their contribution amount
-Employer contributes a dollar-for-dollar match equal to 5% of a member's salary
-Employees are fully vested after 3 years of service
