The Office of the General Counsel (OGC) provides high-quality, professional legal representation to the Arizona Corporation Commission, assisting in the execution of its powers, duties, and responsibilities. We handle a wide range of matters including Commission dockets, open meetings, federal regulatory cases, litigation, administrative tasks, public records requests, and special projects. We are looking to add a detail-oriented and motivated Paralegal to join our team. In this role, you will provide comprehensive legal assistance, administrative, and office support to the staff attorneys within the OGC. This includes handling pleadings, discovery requests, and correspondence, as well as managing litigation deadlines, meetings, and attorney schedules. You will also assist with special assignments as directed by the General Counsel and Deputy General Counsel and support OGC Executive Legal Assistants as needed.

This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.
• Research – The paralegal will be required to assist with researching case law, administrative decisions, rules and regulations. The Paralegal is expected to research and know rules issued by local, state, and federal courts. The position requires knowledge of and the ability to apply Corporation Commission rules and knowledge of administrative law.
• This position requires knowledge of and mastery of computerized legal databases including Westlaw and FastCase, internet research, and legal publications. This position will be expected to provide research assistance to staff attorneys and Commission staff.
* This paralegal position will assist with the management of cases and rulemaking, assist with and calculate calendar deadlines; track data responses to discovery; organize and maintain discovery, pleadings, briefs, and other documents; attend workshops, administrative and civil hearings and public meetings of the Commission.
• Write - data or discovery requests, memoranda, and pleadings; edit, cite check, and prepare testimony, pleadings, and briefs for final printing and filing; reports on the status of Commission-related litigation and other matters.
• Consult with attorneys and staff - about research projects, administrative cases, litigation cases, rulemaking, and workshops.
• Respond to public records requests - search for responsive materials using manual and electronic systems; process for attorney review; and ensure appropriate delivery to the requestor.
• Technical Proficiency: Advanced knowledge of Microsoft 365 and PDF document management; proficient in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and transcription tools. Writing and typing skills must be accurate and timely, and proofreading work to eliminate grammatical and other errors must be achieved.
• Legal Knowledge: Familiarity with litigation protocols, legal terminology, administrative law, and the legal filing process in county, state, and federal courts (including appellate briefs).
• Administrative Expertise: Ability to draft and file legal documents internally via eDocket and externally with the Clerks of Courts at the State and Federal levels, monitor and anticipate deadlines, and manage overlapping case workloads.
• Attention to Detail: Strong ability to perform detailed work with speed and accuracy while ensuring confidentiality and compliance with legal standards.
• Communication: Excellent writing and communication skills, with the ability to convey complex legal information clearly and professionally.
• Teamwork: A collaborative attitude with a demonstrated ability to work in a team and independently support multiple attorneys.
• Time Management and Organization Skills are a key aspect of the position as well as a strong desire to learn.
Formal paralegal education or related certification is helpful.
Several years of civil or administrative law experience supporting 2 or more attorneys simultaneously in a fast-paced legal environment is a plus.
Prior experience working as a paralegal in administrative law or working with regulatory agencies is a plus.
