The Park Assistant Manager at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park will be in charge of the park in the absence of the Park Manager. Assists Manager in the day-to-day operations of a very busy and high-profile recreational park. Update ledgers, assist in administrative duties, balance receipts, make bank deposits, park orders and purchases within procurement guidelines. Performs all necessary activities associated with employee performance, development of work expectations and opportunities to exceed standards. Meets with and keeps Park Manager informed of all issues regarding park staff and operational needs. Responsible for the upkeep of the Goodfellow lodge and surrounding landscape. Routinely inspects grounds, equipment, buildings and other facilities for necessary repairs and/or security or safety concerns or hazards. Provides and supervises preventative and general maintenance as needed. Including landscaping, trail maintenance, irrigation, electrical, carpentry, welding, painting and general janitorial duties. Responsible for park/lodge administration, including instructing and training subordinate staff and volunteers performing a wide variety of tasks. Respects, advocates and educates on the importance of preservation and cultural resources. Accomplishes project management, resource acquisition opportunities and community relations at Tonto Natural Bridge State Park. Enforces all park policies and procedures while conserving the natural resources of State Parks and ensuring public safety. Collects and accounts for public fees, ensures proper training for all staff and assumes overall responsibility for employees and state property. Answering public correspondence and making public presentations.
- Administers the operations of Tonto Natural bridge State Park and Goodfellow Lodge.
- Operates with a business acumen and entrepreneurial spirit that focuses on revenue generation, cost effectiveness, and innovation.
- Responsible for coordination special events.
- Performs maintenance on buildings and grounds initiating preventative care.
- Supervises subordinate staff and/or volunteers in same tasks.
- Responsible for the performance of administrative duties to include: balancing daily journal transaction report, revenue collection, recaps and bank deposits.
- Use computer based reservation system to maintain reservations and collect revenue.
- Assists Park Manager in maintain the park’s budget.
- Processes special use permits.
- Sells commercial passes.
- Operates contact station and trains subordinate staff on proper operational procedures.
- Responsible for managements and completion of park projects within established time frames.
- Monitors park construction projects through site visits, coordination with development staff and Regional Manager.
- Responsible for park maintenance/improvement projects including grounds, buildings, equipment, trails, roads, etc.
- Establish maintenance standards to meet needs of park resources, visitors and staff.
- Responsible for procurements activities and purchasing supplies.
- Ensures all procurement activity complies with Arizona State laws and statutes and Arizona Procurement Office policies.
- Completes RTP and purchases using contracted vendors whenever possible.
- Keeps track of supply inventory and replaces supplies in a timely manner.
- Creates and monitors employees schedules and approves leave requests.
- Evaluates employees through MAP process and monitor subordinates staffs work habits.
- Seeks training for employees that improve the chances for betterment and promotion throughout State Parks Agency.
- Participate and represent agency in a variety of capacities; training seminars, internal Arizona State Park committees and public outreach.
- Collaborate and foster good public relations with park visitors.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.

- One year of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Senior, OR three years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger.
- A Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Natural Resource Management, History, Geology, Ecology, Recreation Planning or a closely related field may substitute for one year of the Park Ranger experience.
Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment.
Water Certification Grade 1 (Preferred, not required.)
