Under general direction of the Park Manager, assists in managing the operations of a large, highly utilized recreational or natural resource park with varied features, and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations. In conjunction with the Park Manager, responsible for the park administration; including instructing, training and counseling subordinate staff and volunteers performing a variety of park tasks as well as problem solving and park decision making. Assists the Park Manager in the development, construction and maintenance of exhibits and interpretive programs pertaining the the park. Champions continuous improvement personally and with all park staff.
Must be able to work weekends and holidays and possibly relocate to another state park seasonally and/or permanently on a periodic basis.
Living on park may be required.
Strategic Planning - In conjunction with the Park Manager, assists with overseeing and administering operations for Lyman Lake and Arizona State Park. Directly supervise Lyman Lake park employees. Directly responsible for visitor services, annual operating plan development, updating, and implementation at Lyman Lake. Adherence to Agency policies and procedures; human resource management; natural resource and facility management. Oversight of facility care standards. Directly responsible for expenditures and accountability of park operating funds.
Leadership & Supervision - Empowers and leads supervisors to problem solve, manage staff and build strong team. Develops and mentors staff using best management practices and setting leadership examples through personal work culture. Assists the Park Manager in providing reports to Agency leadership for continuous improvement, operations, personnel and budget. Professionally represent the Agency to stakeholders and communities, attend board and public meetings. Work with Agency Human Resources to respond to employee issues. Provide analysis and recommendations of key Park issues, operations and budgets. Reviews and makes recommendations of current policy, principles and laws pertaining to Park operations, protection of natural, cultural and environmental resources, agency funds, capitol, grants and financial reporting. Oversight of all aspects of the Park Operations, customer service, interpretive planning, overseeing and participating in the development of the Park operating budgets, including appropriated, non-appropriated and leveraging federal grant funding, appropriate staffing and Parks Board directives.
Systems Management (AMS) - Strategic thinking for the organization to maximize the mission outcome. Coaching through performance feedback cycle (1:1, Gemba, MAP) Champions continuous improvement projects to identify waste and develop revised processes to increase work product efficiency, quality and output. Ensures visual management tools are being properly used by staff and conducts Gemba activities.
Budget Management:
Assist Park Manager in managing Parks budgets in order to be aware of financial resources for staff training, strategic hiring, purchasing of necessary equipment.
Maintenance-Serve as primary leader in performing maintenance and inspection of park infrastructure, building and equipment for the park. Troubleshoot, repair and install restroom fixtures/toilets, preform maintenance trail maintenance, plumbing, preventative maintenance, landscape, minor electrical repairs & troubleshooting, oil changes/fluids maintenance of equipment, UTVs and tractors.

An ideal candidate would have Bachelors Degree in the area of Park Management, Natural Resource Management, Recreation, or closely related field. Experience in park management, managing staff, budget, park operations and volunteers.
Must obtain, possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver’s license appropriate to assignment.
