LOST DUTCHMAN STATE PARK
Under general supervision of the Assistant Manager, performs a variety of work activities while providing customer service in the operation of a recreational/ natural resource park; interprets natural features of the area, and ensures public safety by enforcing Park rules and regulations.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Work independently and with others.
Provide excellent customer service to all visitors.
Collect fees by following proper policies and procedures for cash handling and processing credit cards.
Knowledgeable in the use of reservation software to assist customers, collect fees, and conduct compliance.
Cleaning restrooms, repairing small equipment, basic carpentry and electrical repairs, and landscape maintenance.
Completes all training required for this position and any additional duties in a timely manner.
Operates and maintains vehicles, UTV's, and equipment including hand and power tools and landscape equipment.
Promotes public safety by educating the public on park rules and regulations.
Lead seasonal employees and volunteers in various park projects.
Assists in managing any emergency situation that may occur on park.
Interpret natural features of the area and historic objects/artifacts for visitors.
Respects, advocates, and educates the importance of preservation and cultural resources.
Works outdoors in the summer heat.
This position must be able to work weekends, holidays, evenings and could possibly relocate to another state park seasonally and or permanently.
Outdoor Recreation & Programs:
- Hosts visitors; conducts interpretive programs and may lead guided walks or hikes.
- Provides information in response to visitor questions, direction, guidance, and concerns.
Customer Service:
- Provides customer service by phone and in-person and respond to publics inquires about park hours, accommodations, reservations.
- Cash Handling - Perform cashier duties at Contact Station/Gift Shop.
- Collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases.
Custodial cleaning/Maintenance:
- Complete custodial cleaning of restrooms, cabins, buildings, vehicles, and trash removal daily.
- Complete maintenance tasks of buildings and grounds as assigned based on skills and abilities.
Public & Staff Safety:
- Promote the safety of park visitors and enforces Park rules and protect Park resources.
- Utilizes two-way radio communications system.
- Confers with local officials and law enforcement officers.
- Completes all necessary reports concerning incidents.
Cash Handling:
- Perform cashier duties at the office/visitor center.
- Collect and account for fees for park admission and store purchases.
- May lead and assist in training subordinate staff.
- This position may be assigned the special responsibility of educational interpretation of the natural features of the park.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge of:
Principles and processes for providing customer and personal services. Park rules/ regulations, fees and revenue functions; techniques for display and interpretation of objects/ artifacts and general resources to visitors; general office procedures. Basic first Aid training.
Basic construction, custodial, maintenance ability and Computer skills.
Skill in:
Public relations and information dissemination; customer service; active listening; critical thinking; driving and operating automotive equipment; basic custodial techniques. Oral and written communication. Public speaking. Basic building and vehicle maintenance skills. First aid and emergency response.
Ability to:
Research of natural or historical information; performing math calculations; working in team and maintaining interpersonal relationships. Multitasking, effective communication verbally and in writing. Work weekends, holidays, night shifts, and outside in extreme temperatures. Helps maintain buildings, vehicles, and grounds. Enforces rules and regulations. Ability to maintain professional demeanor in emergencies or high -stress situations.
Two years of experience equivalent to a Park Ranger Intermediate; OR three years of work experience in customer service work; OR a Bachelor's degree in Park Management, Forestry, Natural Resource Management, or a closely related field. Any combination of training and experience that meet knowledge, skills, and abilities may be substituted.
- Must possess and maintain a current Arizona Driver's license appropriate to assignment.
- May require First Aid/CPR/AED within 90 days
