This position is responsible for English to Spanish translation/transcreation/ proofreading documents, reviewing materials for accurate translation, literacy level, and cultural appropriateness of Spanish language marketing and educational materials for the Bureau of Nutrition and Physical Activity programs and topics including WIC, AZ Health Zone (SNAP-Ed), Infant feeding, PowerMeA2Z, disordered eating prevention and health in early care and education. Provides internal staff with direction on social marketing and health communication campaigns, development of materials, and messaging specific to Spanish-speaking populations. Assist in integrating the principles of trauma-informed approaches, community engagement, and health equity into marketing and communication practices.
The employee must accurately convey spoken messages between parties in real-time, such as facilitating focus groups, while maintaining the original tone and intent. Interprets the meaning of information for others by translating or explaining what information means and how it can be used. This includes adapting translations to fit the cultural context of the target language and maintaining the integrity of the original message.
Position has radio and television marketing responsibilities and must know Arizona's Spanish marketing, media, and communication landscape. Marketing responsibilities include directing the writing, editing, and layout of materials, brochures, scripts, and visual aids to include cultural appropriateness. The position will also help with Spanish talent casting, attending pre-production meetings, working with talent, reviews set for cultural appropriateness, and providing feedback on final digital media productions.
This position helps build and maintain relationships with community members, clients, and vendors, understanding their needs and providing excellent customer service.
Translation, transcreation, proofreading of documents, education resources, and website content for the Bureau of Nutrition and Physical Activity programs like WIC, Breastfeeding, Power Me A2Z, AZ Health Zone, and Health Emergency Communications.
Provide direction and guidance for the development of social marketing and health communication campaigns, including feedback on literacy level, and cultural appropriateness of images, content, and messages. This also includes consultation on Spanish talent casting and preparation, on-set look and cultural appropriateness, and overall production.
Consult with program teams and participate in meetings to provide cultural considerations for program and project strategy development.
Leads Community Advisory board to engage Spanish-speaking community members and gather feedback on verbiage, images, and projects. Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge of:
- Strategies and best practices of Spanish marketing, media, and communications.
- The principles and practices of journalism, public relations, advertising and mass communications as applied to public information; programming for television; the
preparation and reproduction of written and photographic materials.
- Knowledge of the structure and content of Spanish language including the meaning and
spelling of words, rules of composition and grammar, and pronunciation.
- Broad knowledge of the importance of nutrition and physical activity in a community's well-being.
- Federal and state rules and regulations to ensure program compliance
- Lived experience within Mexican-American culture.
- Diversity and inclusion strategies for minority cultures.
Skill in:
- Deal effectively with the public and to speak in public; oral and written epression
- Facilitating group meetings.
- Reading policies and technical report writing.
- Planning and executing projects and programs.
- Able to work in virtual and in-person settings.
- Fluency in written Spanish (Mexican dialect).
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Google Suites.
Bachelor Degree in Translation, or a certificate of translation from an accredited university, or be accredited by the American Translators Association. A certification from a nationally recognized medical interpreting certification through either NBCMI (National Board of Certification for Medical Interpreters) or CCHI (Certification Commission for Healthcare Interpreters), or a legal interpreting certification such as FCICE (Federal Court Interpreter Certification Examination), or ACICP (Arizona Court Interpreter Credentialing Program) is also desired.
Employees must take and pass the Arizona Department of Health Services bilingual stipend exam within the first six months of employment.
