The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner will serve as an independent member of the medical staff and will function as a Licensed Independent Practitioner (LIP). Provides inpatient psychiatric care to patients at the Arizona State Hospital. Responsible for psychiatric assessment. diagnosis and treatment to assist patients towards stabilization and recovery. Leads a multidisciplinary team and oversees the work of the clinical team in developing and implementing an individualized treatment plan. Coordinates with providers, families, guardians and other parties in developing a comprehensive discharge plan. Prescribes medication, orders lab tests and other procedures via the electronic Physician Order Entry system. Completes required documentation in the Electronic Medical Record. Participates in hospital committees
when necessary and assists in developing policies and procedures when necessary. Works with interdisciplinary team members in coordinating care and treatment.
- Prescribes psychiatric medication and treatment and monitors care and progress towards treatment goals
- Conducts psychiatric evaluations, diagnosis and treatment of patients at the Arizona State Hospital
- Provides leadership to multidisciplinary team in the development and implementation of a treatment plan
- Completes required documentation in the electronic medical record
- Attends hospital committees and medical staff meetings
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge of:
- Standard and practice in psychiatry including diagnosis of mental disorders.
- Evidence based treatment for mental disorders.
- Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.
Skill in:
- Array of psychiatric treatments including psycho-pharmacology, diagnosis and treatment of serious psychiatric conditions,
- Interpreting and evaluating laboratory tests;
- Written and verbal communication skills, experience in leading a multidisciplinary team.

- Problem solving and conflict resolution.

- Master of Science in Nursing is preferred.
- A State hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid level one fingerprint clearance card issued pursuant to A.R.S. 41-1758.07 or must apply for a level one fingerprint clearance card within seven working days after beginning employment.
- Must possess a current and valid license as a Nurse Practitioner from the Arizona state Board of Nursing. Master of Science in Nursing.
