The Arizona State Hospital (ASH) provides inpatient psychiatric care to persons with serious mental illness who need long-term behavioral health care. Job Summary:

The Psychologist performs court-mandated individual and group therapy for adult male sexual offenders determined to be Sexually Violent Persons (SVPs) at the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center (ACPTC). ACPTC is a statutorily required facility to provide treatment, care, and supervision of SVPs. This position will participate in overseeing resident treatment groups, screening, interviewing, and conducting needs assessments. Reviews evaluations to inform treatment decision-making. Provides emergency intervention, for example in cases of danger-to-self and danger-to-other behavior, and write orders as needed. Develops case presentations, develops and reviews treatment plans for compliance. Identifies treatment needs and sets goals and objectives relevant to these needs. Designs programs/treatment groups, writes and reviews comprehensive progress notes for compliance, including treatment summaries and recommendations for change of resident placement. Participates in committees, classification decisions, and may provide clinical oversight in absence of ACPTC Clinical Director. May provide supervision to psychology interns/students. May complete and/or supervise violence risk assessment. Other duties as indicated.

 

Job Duties:

− Provides psychological treatment and counseling (individual and groups,) conducts psychological evaluations/risk assessments, develops, implements and evaluates resident programs and accurate documentation.
− Creates and implements individualized treatment groups and plans.
− Evaluates and documents consultation regarding residents who exhibit signs of or who verbalize intent to harm themselves or others (DTO/DTS) to ensure the safety of residents and staff.
− Supervises predoctoral psychology interns and students.
− Participates in clinical treatment planning for residents. Develops individualized treatment plans for ACPTC residents.
− Participates in/facilitates treatment staffings.
− Provides clinical oversight in the absence of the Clinical Director.
− Develops and maintains psychological program resident files including treatment plans, progress notes, reports, and case summaries.
− Conducts/reviews research in areas of mental health, sex offender treatment, recidivism, psychology and special needs of resident population, presents case study reviews to members of psychology staff, works with professionals from outside agencies in joint treatment efforts as needed.
− Promotes cooperation and dialogue with facility departments/staff through committee meetings, staffings, special activities, and consultation.
− Participates in professional development activities, including in-service training to program staff, develops, implements, and evaluates training, participates in conferences and professional organizational activities.
− Maintains continuing education credits.
− Provides supervision and clinical oversight to doctoral level interns, practicum students, and master's level clinicians who are working towards advanced licensure (LPC).
− Provides administrative assistance by reviewing treatment plans and progress notes for quality, accuracy, and compliance.
− Other duties as assigned as related to the position

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge of:
− Techniques and procedures for psychological counseling and therapy.
− Comprehensive knowledge of psychological screening, testing and evaluations.
− Contemporary thoughts and trends in psychology, sociology and mental health.
− Research methods and techniques to include data analysis and psychological measurements.
− Report writing.
− Performance Management (PM), and Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and Lean methodologies.

- Provide timely documentation for assessment and treatment activities, administer, score and interpret a variety of psychological tests accurately and effectively.
- Write summaries and reports of professional quality, perform counseling and therapy services with individuals and groups.
- Provide clinical oversight to professionals and paraprofessionals.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have:
− Training in a wide range of psychological therapy and assessments and 1 year of professional experience as a licensed psychologist or training experience with forensic populations.
− Experience working with individuals with a history of sexual offending, treatment, or assessment preferred, but not required.
− Preference given to applicants with Public Health experience.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

- Must have a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology

- Must be licensed as a Psychologist in the State of Arizona or be license eligible and receive license from the Board of Psychologist Examiners within one year of appointment.

- A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid Level One Fingerprint Clearance Card pursuant to A.R.S. § 41-1758.07.

Driving is required for State Business.
- Employees who drive on state business require possession of and the ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any driver training (See Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.11).

Retirement:
