This position involves conducting screenings on newborns to detect metabolic/genetic disorders that may impact a child's long-term well-being and survival as well as performing data analysis, and data validation to monitor various CQI metrics of the program/laboratory. The duties include adhering to established laboratory protocols and performing various advanced testing methods encompassing molecular, chemical, and hematological techniques. The responsibilities extend to result assessment, record-keeping and documentation management, result reporting, quality control measures, laboratory inventory management, and equipment maintenance within the Newborn Screening Office. Additionally, this position includes other duties aimed at the laboratory's quality assurance efforts, such as quality assurance assessments, writing corrective action reports, and conducting/writing method validation and verification procedures.
Perform test procedures for metabolic/genetic disorders. Read, record, and Interpret results.
Perform data analysis and data validation for various continuous quality improvement projects for the program/ laboratory.
Perform laboratory inventory and order reagents/supplies as needed.
Perform quality assurance assignments including but not limited to performing preventative maintenance and QC checks, writing corrective action reports, and compiling monthly QA reviews.
Conduct methods development and research of new test procedures.
Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
Knowledge of:
- Principles, methods, and techniques of metabolic disorders testing.
- Medical, microbiological, and chemical terminology.
- Statistical analysis, SQL, PowerBI, R Studio
- Cause of metabolic diseases and their effects.
- Molecular biology and/or chemistry laboratory technique and specialized instrument.
- Techniques in Enzyme Immunoassay, HPLC, lsoelectric Focusing, PCR, and Mass Spectrometry analysis.
- Policies, procedures, and regulations.
Skill in:
- Testing methods in molecular, chemistry, and hematology
- SQL, PowerBI, and R Studio or equivalent
- Aseptic technique
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong computer skills
- Strong degree of manual dexterity
- Time management
Ability to:
- Building SQL query and performing statistical analysis
- Perform laboratory testing in accordance with standard operating procedures
- Interpret and analyze test results.

Bachelor’s degree or higher in a related field with 2 years of work experience.
