Job Summary:

The River and Stream Specialist 2 is the lead biologist responsible for management of regional rivers and streams. This position is responsible for completing a variety of professional wildlife work assignments relating to the management of fisheries resources in central Arizona.

Job Duties:

Specific duties include: plans, organizes, analyzes and conducts professional fish and wildlife management activities for the Regional Fish Program. Conducts outreach activities (e.g. fishing clinics, fishing techniques workshops) and communicates information to the public. Will respond to requests for program related information, education and outreach activities. Conducts data analysis and develops and/or reviews recommendations related toward fisheries management. Records, analyzes and maintains fisheries management databases and interprets data for fish management reporting. Represent the Department at public and professional meetings; Provide consultation and technical advice within specialty areas. Will manage and maintain assigned program equipment and assess program needs and procure supplies and equipment necessary for fish program personnel. May serve as project lead to interns and/or volunteers. Perform other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

The candidate will have knowledge of/in: fish and wildlife techniques and application; fish biology and habitat; fish population dynamics; survey design and application; statistical analysis; federal and state laws, regulations and policies related to fisheries management and aquatic resources. The candidate will have skill in: water based fisheries management techniques; verbal and written communication; basic knowledge of GPS devices and technology; first aid; basic survival skills; statistical analysis and reporting; basic accounting principles; public outreach. The candidate will have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; provide effective customer service (internal and externally); multitask; prioritize; and be a critical thinker.

Selective Preference(s):

The ideal candidate will have SCUBA, first aid and CPR certifications.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

The candidate must have a Bachelor's degree in fisheries and/or a wildlife science or a closely related field, and two years of professional experience in fisheries and/or wildlife management/research. A graduate degree in a wildlife science may substitute for one year of the required experience.

Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
