This position is eligible to participate in the ASE Stipend Pay Program, employees can earn up to $14,400 a year with qualifying certifications. We reimburse 100% of the cost for passed tests and offer training assistance!

Uniforms provided to shop employees at no charge and are eligible to participate in the Safety-toe Shoe reimbursement program (100% of cost up to $250.00 every other calendar year)

 Work Schedule: Monday thru Friday 7:00am – 3:30pm

Approved hiring salary is $62,920 annually with a potential to earn up to $77,320 annually when ASE Triple Master Certified Technician status is obtained.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for supervising subordinates engaged in day to day automotive maintenance operations of the Customer Service Center, Car Wash and Capital Mall Shops and to ensure efficient and timely preventative maintenance support and customer needs are met. Coordinates the day-to day operations of the commercial statewide towing. This position requires flexibility with work hours and days/nights, weekends and holidays to accommodate emergency repair work and varied schedules.

Job Duties:

Provide oversight/guidance to staff on daily workloads. Coordinates the day-to-day operations of the commercial statewide towing. Ensures vehicle/equipment assets are serviced/repaired in accordance with Federal, State, ADOT, Interagency Service Agreements and Equipment Services (EQS) Policy/Procedures. Ensure staff follows applicable policies and procedures.

Dispatch incoming vehicle/equipment work to shops based on workload and requirements. Conducts Quality Assurance Inspections on completed maintenance work on ADOT vehicle/equipment to assess quality of repairs/services. Dispatches commercial roadside services as required and monitors commercial towing performance and accuracy of weekly billing.

Complete formal (written) quarterly performance feedbacks and annual appraisals on staff. Ensure all mandatory employee training requirements are met and identify/report training deficiencies through appropriate channels. Process HR paperwork and conduct hiring interviews. Approve technician leave requests with respect to missions, work loads, and identify trends.

Provide Customer Service support via telephone, e-mail or in person. Attend/conduct meetings, make verbal/written presentations and communicate with all levels on a daily basis. Serves as leader for all continuous improvement efforts which include implementation of process improvements.

Monitors and coordinates all annual aerial equipment inspections within the Central Region. Assess possible vehicle/equipment abuse damage and initiates abuse (direct bill) repair work orders. Ensure technicians conduct annual personal tool inventories and maintain copies. Monitors commercial towing performance and accuracy of weekly billing.

Provides timely repair status to customers regarding in progress or finished vehicle/equipment maintenance repair work. Directly responsible for scheduling appointments for the Preventive Maintenance and Emission Testing Programs.

Develop and effectively execute annual operating budget. Monitors warranty, commercial repair actions and vendor performance. Follows/enforces applicable safety/environmental protection policies and procedures while executing Customer Service Center's mission.

Operate vehicle/equipment requiring a driver's license to complete mission needs and other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:
- Leadership/supervisory principles in an automotive maintenance environment.
- Automotive repair of heavy and light class, electrical, hydraulic, fuel, mechanical and on-board systems.
- Equipment needed to maintain/repair heavy/light vehicles.
- Automotive scheduled maintenance programs, work order processing, warranty repair procedures, material deficiency reporting, tire failure reports and procurement policies and procedures.
- Budgeting process & methods,procedures for identifying/obtaining needed resources.
- Automotive/heavy construction equipment operating procedures.
- Automotive shop safety principles and practices; maintenance management.

Skill:

- Effective communications both written and oral.
- Estimating time parameters/cost of preventative maintenance/repair work for a wide variety of automotive/heavy equipment.
- Projecting parts, supplies, and staffing needs based shop work-loads and anticipated organization activities/program changes.
- Understanding manufacturer's service/repair manuals; and, organizing/supervising automotive/heavy equipment service/repair shop.

Ability:

- Use MS Office, Google and Gmail, Fleet applications and other computer software as needed in the performance of assigned duties.
- Organize an automotive service and repair shop to maximize efficiency and productivity.
- Triage and prioritize shop work-loads and work orders.
- Use appropriate automotive diagnostic tools/equipment to ensure accurate/timely automotive repairs/services.
- Prepare clear/concise records, reports and other written materials. Maintains effective relationships with internal and external customers.
- Read and comprehend automotive manuals, schematics, diagrams, drawings, manufacturers service bulletin recalls.
- Ability to coach and develop employees, including continuous improvement practices and principles.

Selective Preference(s):

Journeyman-level experience must have been acquired in 1995 or after: Five-years of journeyman-level experience as a light/heavy class automotive technician and three years of experience as a Shop Lead Technician or Shop Foreman; or five-years of supervisory experience in the automotive maintenance field. ASE certification in Automotive and/or Medium/Heavy Duty Truck, Bus or Heavy Equipment Manufacturers certifications.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
