Under the general supervision of the Special Investigator Supervisor, performs statewide, national, and at times international investigations of highly complex nature, oftentimes involving multiple criminal offenses, working with a high degree of independence. Reviewing allegations, complaints or other information to determine criminal offenses that may have been committed. Conducting investigations, including but not limited to; theft, fraud, embezzlement, forgery, conspiracy, fraudulent schemes, political corruption, etc. Conferring with prosecuting attorneys regarding progress of investigations, quality of case files and evidence, drafts of subpoenas, warrants, etc. Preparing affidavits to obtain search warrants, arrest warrants, wiretaps, physical characteristic court orders. Individuals who have served honorably as a peace officer in Arizona and their certification as a peace officer has lapsed, or served in another state or federal agency, may be eligible to gain Arizona POST certification through Waiver Testing in lieu of attending an Arizona Peace Officer basic course at an academy. The selected candidate will have to complete the Peace Officer Physical Aptitude Test (POPAT) prior to the background process. Background check and In-state travel is required.
This position may offer the ability to work remotely, within Arizona, based upon the department's business needs and continual meeting of expected performance measures.

• Pertinent State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.

• Activity reporting and accounting procedures established for the work system.
• Principles of report writing.
• Have previously served as a certified peace officer in Arizona, another state, or federal agency, and meet all of the minimum qualifications for certification as an Arizona Peace Officer.

• Interpreting relevant State and Federal motor vehicle laws, rules and regulations.
• Eliciting factual information and drawing valid conclusions.
• Establishing and maintaining effective relationships with staff members and the general public.
• Use and care of firearms.
• Operate police equipment in emergency situations.
• Exercise discretion in use of force.
• Verbal and written communication, writing clear and concise reports.
• Problem solving and using good judgement.
• Have completed the basic and advanced training that demonstrates substantial comparability to the Arizona basic course.

• Obtain and maintain a CVSA certification.

• To obtain an appointment from an Arizona Law Enforcement Agency.
Experience, education and training in law enforcement/criminal justice environment and course work resulting in full authority Peace Officer Certifications as mandated by the Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training Board (AZPOST).
Minimum of 3-years in an investigative or detective unit.
Arizona Peace Officer Standards and Training (AZPOST) Full Authority Peace Officer certification.
Weapons certified in accordance with AZ P.O.S.T. standards.
Valid driver's license.
