This position is eligible to participate in the ASE Stipend Pay Program, employees can earn up to $14,400 a year with qualifying certifications. We will reimburse 100% of the cost of passed tests!

Anticipated hiring salary is $58,079 with a potential to earn up to $72,479 when ASE Triple Master Certified Technician status is obtained.

Work Hours: Monday through Friday 6:00am – 2:30pm

Job Summary:

Responsible for the development and administration of the Equipment Services (EQS), Automotive and Medium/Heavy Duty Diesel Service and Automotive Service of Excellence (ASE) Training Programs. Works with EQS Training Supervisor to determine training requirements and is centralized to EQS to ensure fleet systems are updated and maintained. Extensive statewide travel is required to fulfill job functions, may be in travel status for several weeks in a row.

Job Duties:

Develop, review, coordinate and travel to conduct Light/Medium Automotive, Medium/Heavy duty Truck equipment technical service training throughout the State of Arizona. Performs service, repair and diagnostic training support tasks related to ensure the agency's equipment repair program is moving with technological changes. Assists in troubleshooting Equipment shop diagnostic and maintenance issues.

May identify training needs, develop service and new equipment technical and maintenance classes with vendors, workbooks, lesson plans and materials to meet ongoing service needs. Plan, develop and write training manual, materials, course outlines, handbooks, powerpoint presentations and audio-visual aids.

Research and analyze data from surveys and develop needs assessments to identify training needs and priorities. Write training courses, lesson plans, workbooks, evaluation materials, produce/edit training videos and other audio-visual aids, build training aids and mock ups. Instruct supervisors and shop technicians in fleet vehicle and equipment operations, service and repair practices, procedures and techniques.

Maintain training records and prepare special studies and a variety of reports. Requires strong cognitive ability. Required to establish diagnostic and vehicle/equipment repair procedures, schedule classes and monitor their enrollment., identify accomplishments, and modify classes as required.

Conduct evaluations and develop measurements to assess program effectiveness. Communicate results to management; modify plans, training course as required.

Establish a flexible schedule to ensure work assignments are completed within a specified time line. This position requires flexibility with work hours and days to accommodate competing deadlines. Will develop reports, identify training/Technical problems concerns and be able to take proper corrective action as deemed necessary within the vehicle and equipment training program.

Coordinate and schedule training classes, maintain training records, write reports and provide technical assistance/guidance and one-on-one coaching to shop personnel on the ASE technical training.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):

Knowledge:
* Strong, Automotive and or Heavy equipment maintenance, service, repair, and diagnostic procedures.

Skill:
* In using a variety of computer programs, ie., Google Workspace, Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, fleet Management software, vehicle/equipment operation and repair software.
* Effective written and verbal communication.
* Reading and interpreting detailed technical, business and reference materials.

Ability:
* Estimate, implement and complete assigned tasks/projects in accordance with established schedules.
* Organize detailed, deep, technical information and relay to peers in a structured classroom and on the job environment.
* Speak publicly, lead discussions, answer questions and provide follow up when needed.
* Work well with a diverse group of individuals.
* Operate a motor vehicle.
* Lift, push, pull 50 lbs and successfully pass a physical examination.
* Formalization on in-service training programs related to upgrade in software and hardware.
* Project future training needs, analyze/develop alternatives, and long-range planning projects.
* Negotiate and resolve problems involving training.
* Write courses, basic through advanced, on both electrical and diagnostics.
* Manage time effectively.

Selective Preference(s):

Three years of journey level experience diagnosing and repairing a variety of Medium/Heavy Duty Trucks and/or Construction Equipment.
The following are preferred: Automotive/Diesel Vocational Trade School degree, experience maintaining, servicing, repairing, and diagnosing hybrid and electrical power-train vehicles and an Automotive Service of Excellence Certification(s) in Automotive or Medium-Heavy Duty Truck.

Pre-Employment Requirements:

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).

EPA Section 609 Certification or the ability to obtain the certification within six months of employment.
