The Habitat Evaluation and Lands Program Manager, Region VI will supervise and coordinate program staff. This position will also plan, organize, and administer Regional Habitat Evaluation and Lands Program including budget; coordinate review and evaluation of proposed land and water projects. Responsible for overseeing evaluation programs and management of Wildlife Areas.
-Supervise the Habitat, Evaluation and Lands (HEL) program staff.
-Plan, organize, and administer Regional HEL Program including budget; hiring, training and evaluation of program staff.
-Oversee Horseshoe Ranch and Lower Gila River Areas Wildlife Areas.
-Coordinate the review and evaluation of proposed land and water projects, including site evaluations and data collection.
-Participate in public land management planning processes.
-Communicate, cooperate, and collaborate with federal, state, and local agencies and with private entities to develop plans, actions, and mitigation for projects.
-Serve as regional expert on environmental laws and NEPA processes.
-Train, advise, and council regional personnel and other Department employees on laws and processes related to fish, wildlife, and habitat.
-Coordinate with regional personnel and programs to ensure collaborative implementation of projects and priorities for the region and the program.
-Prepare, compile, edit, and present reports, plans, and presentations to Regional Supervisor, Habitat Branch Chief, Director, Commission, and other agencies and entities.
-Assist with other regional programs as available.
-Performs other duties as assigned
The candidate will have knowledge of habitat evaluation procedures; habitat management and enhancement techniques; laws, policies, procedures, and regulations of federal and state land management agencies; budget/procurement process; personnel rules; fish, wildlife, plants and their habitat requirements. The candidate will be skilled in effective communication, both verbally and in writing; negotiation; mediation; supervision; GIS; computer and software. The candidate will have the ability to effectively supervise, coach and mentor subordinates; develop and maintain working relationships; provide appropriate customer service to a variety of individuals and private and public groups; use radio systems, GIS, GPS locator, computers, cameras and other tools/equipment as needed; effectively participate in and/or run meetings; occasionally work outdoors in extreme weather and/or isolated conditions; obtain special certifications as needed (e.g., specialized certifications, e.g., herbicide application, water treatment and distribution); and safely use various modes of transportation, boats, four-wheel drive, all terrain vehicles.
The preferred candidate will have a Masters degree in wildlife science or related field.
The candidate must have a Bachelor’s or advanced degree in wildlife science or related field.

If this position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job, then the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked or suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11).
