The Youth Corrections Officer position participates in a 4-Step pay plan that conforms to the following:
Step 1: $22.5000 hourly, $46,800.00 annually
Thereafter you will advance through the remaining pay steps on an annual basis:
Step 2: $23.6539 hourly, $49,200.11 annually
Step 3: $24.2309 hourly, $50,400.27 annually
Step 4: $24.6925 hourly, $51,360.40 annually

Applicants do not need to have any prior experience or training! ADJC will provide you with all the necessary training during our paid seven (7) week Youth Corrections Officer (YCO) Training Academy*.
The YCO Training Academy is scheduled every eight weeks, and is held Monday - Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Adobe Mountain School
YCO Training Academy topics include, but are not limited to the following:
Additionally upon completion of the YCO Training Academy, you will also receive two weeks of paid on-the-job training.

As a YCO Training Academy Graduate, you will already have 20 college credits and a Certificate of Completion (CCL) in Juvenile Corrections from Rio Salado College, to start from
By continuing your education at Rio Salado College you could complete the Associates in Applied Science (AAS) in Corrections and Detention program in no time at all.
Knowledge of:
-Human behavior to include growth, development, needs and problems of youth
-Proper methods and circumstances requiring use of force
-Language as it pertains to youth care, custody treatment and rehabilitation
-Standard housekeeping practices
Skill in:
-Verbal and written communication
Ability to:
-Establish and maintain effective working relationships
-Work both indoors and outdoors in varying Arizona weather conditions
-Learn and apply laws, rules, regulations, policies, procedures, programs and activities established for the agency
-Learn and apply methods, techniques and correct practices of security procedures as they pertain to the state’s youth secure care facilities
-Maintain an understanding attitude toward juveniles in custody
-Participate in rehabilitation and/or treatment activities
-Provide assistance, guidance and direction to juveniles
-Provide positive prosocial role modeling
-Apply appropriate restraint techniques
-Respond to emergency situations and provide crisis intervention and first aid/basic life support
-Maintain a structures and secures environment
Preference will be given to applicants with:
-Military Veterans/Law Enforcement background.
-Experience in working with youth or juveniles preferred.
In order to qualify for a Youth Corrections Officer position, applicants must possess the following:
-18 years of age or older
-High School Diploma or GED
-No felony convictions
-Must possess and retain, a current/valid Driver License (A current/valid Arizona Drivers License will be required at the time a official start date is established.)
*Selection Process Includes:

-Panel Interview
-Behavioral Assessment
-Comprehensive Background Investigation
-Drug screen
-Pre-placement Physical Exam
-Predictive Index Survey (Survey not used as a selection factor)
Requires successful completion of a paid seven (7) week ADJC Pre-Service Training Academy.

Youth Corrections Officer positions participate in the Corrections Officer Retirement Plan (CORP).
